This is possible because of how they are manufactured. Unlike round fiberglass columns, which are typically moulded, our square columns use a pultrusion process — fibreglass strands are pulled under high pressure through a square die and extruded into a continuous tube. This aligns the fibres along the full length of the column, which makes pultruded square columns exceptionally strong relative to their wall thickness. The load-bearing capacity of 8,000 lbs meets or exceeds the structural requirement of virtually all residential porch applications.

Important note on PVC column wraps: PVC wraps are a different product entirely — they are decorative covers that go around an existing structural post and are not load-bearing on their own. If your existing wood column is rotted or failing, a PVC wrap is not a solution. A full replacement with a structural fibreglass column is the correct fix.
