What does Rough Sawn mean? 

Lumber cut from a log using a bandsaw that isn't planed smooth is called "rough sawn." That's because the bandsaw blade leaves saw marks on the lumber, giving it a distinctive texture. It's this texture that's replicated in our Rough Sawn products.

Advantages of Rough Sawn Fibreglass Columns Over Cedar Porch Columns

Cedar porch columns are beautiful to look at, but they don't have the durability or long lifespan of  Fibreglass columns. Additionally, fibreglass columns can withstand extreme weather conditions, such as heavy rain, snow and high winds, without deteriorating. This makes them a great choice for providing the rustic look of cedar in your front porch columns

Strength

Rough Sawn Fibreglass Columns are incredibly strong, with a higher strength to weight ratio than cedar. This means they can support heavy loads without buckling or breaking. They are also highly resistant to impact.

Fire Resistant

Fibreglass columns are a safer choice than wooden columns. In a fire, they won't contribute to the spread of flames or smoke, reducing the risk of property damage and injury.

Staining your Rough Sawn Column

For the finish coat, it is important to use a high-quality coating. High-quality exterior acrylic solid-body stains or exterior acrylic paints should be used. Apply finish with a brush. Follow the stain/paint manufacturer's coating recommendations and application instructions.

NOTE: Do not apply oil-base solid stains, gel stains, semi-transparent stains, or transparent stains to RoughSawn® columns. Do not apply polyurethane or other clear finishes to RoughSawn® columns. Do not use any finishes or solvents containing acetone, lacquer thinner, or MEK.
